Where once upon a time the festive season seemed to be all about drinking alcohol – mulled wine, cream liqueurs, sherry, and more – these days alcohol-free choices seem to be en vogue. So, this year, be prepared for teetotal guests with a repertoire of festive mocktail ideas from the V8 recipe books.

1.   Bloody Mary Mocktail

Try serving a Bloody Mary mocktail this year to accompany your breakfast, or alongside some tasty canapes when guests arrive. Using a pantry staple, a carton of V8 juice, combined with a few other flavoursome ingredients, this moreish mocktail will tingle the tastebuds.

This mocktail recipe is well-loved by grown-ups, but younger members of the family may not enjoy the spicy additions (horseradish and chilli sauce). In this case, simply serve up a glass of V8 so they feel included or try out another of the below recipes.

2.   Virgin Eggnog

Eggnog recipes usually call for a spirit, whether its brandy, rum, or whisky. However, made without alcohol, eggnog still delivers a creamy festive treat. Try mixing:

  • x4 Egg yolks
  • 100ml Double cream
  • 500ml Whole milk
  • 100ml Sugar syrup
  • 1tsp Vanilla essence
  • Ice
  • Cinnamon to sprinkle on top

With this alcohol-free version of this festive classic, you can please visitors of all ages. Serve with mince pies or a generous portion of pudding for that quintessentially festive dessert.

3.  Alcohol Free Mulled Wine

Another festive favourite, you can’t visit a market without the tempting and fragrant aroma of mulled wine. But it’s not the alcohol that emits this scent, it’s the combination of wintery spices and warmed fruit. Alcohol free mulled wine is easy to make, and there are plenty of variations to choose from:

  • 750ml Fruit juice – choose from orange, apple, grape, pomegranate, and/or cranberry – or a combination of all five!1 x
  • Cinnamon stick
  • 1 x Star anise
  • 4 x Cloves
  • ½ teaspoon x Nutmeg
  • Fresh orange slices

To make, simply combine and heat gently.

Virgin Mulled Wine

This warming recipe is fantastic after spending a day outside with the family sledging and making snow angels! It can be as complex or easy as preferred, but simply demands combining ingredients and heating them through in a big pot on the hob.

4.  Tangy Orange Punch

Our V8-based Tangy Orange Punch uses just four ingredients. It’s so simple to make and delivers a truly tasty festive mocktail. Best served chilled with dinner, or even on New Year’s Eve for an alcohol-free option for those guests who’d prefer it!

5.  Ginger Apple Cider

Alcohol free cider is ideal during the winter for warming up and feeling toasty. This comfort drink can be heated and put into flasks to take on days out making snow people, or to enjoy while on a wintery walk. Again, it’s easy to make and is very sweet and tasty. See the ingredients, which simply need combining and warming:

  • 750ml Apple juice
  • x1 Fresh, sliced apple
  • Orange zest
  • x3 whole cloves
  • 1tsp allspice
  • x2 cinnamon sticks

Ginger apple cider

Slices of apple, orange, and/or a cinnamon stick make an attractive garnish, as well as offering that little bit of extra flavour. Simply choose your favourite addition or whichever you think makes the prettiest festive decoration.
